Asakusa 1.
From Japan on February 8, 2009Each time when I come to Tokyo, I stay in Asakusa. There is my favourite, small Tokyo hostel. I will write about this place separately, because this is really special hostel. Asakusa is more quiet and more old fashion than many places in Japanese capital city.I like Asakusa because of river bank, park near river, Sensoji temple and lots of small shops and bars and my secret places which I know already so well. I spent in this place together over one month, so I can call it my Tokyo neighbourhood. Every morning I used to run to Family Mart to buy some nice stuff for breakfast. Shopping in Japan is a real fun, because all things are lovely packed and so tasty- in case of food. In warm days i liked to eat breakfast sitting on benches in park and watch Sumida river. It is rather not Japanese custom to eat that way, so sometimes I felt strange as people stared me. I always smile seing Asashi building with big golden sculpture which looks like giant ...when you see by yourself, you will understand what i wanted to say... The heart of Asakusa is Sensoji Temple. It is rurrouned by gates with huge red lanterns. I like most Kaminari mon- Gate of Thunder. Sensoji was my first target for morning walk, after breakfast. In mornings it is not crowdy and so peaceful.I used to walk around all temples and buildings. Aroma of old wood, dust and incense sticks- aroma of Japanese temples. In small, tidy streets surrounding Sensoji there is lots of small shops. In some man can buy typical stuff made for tourists, but in some of them I have seen beautiful fabrics for kimonos, so expensive, same like ready kimonos. There are also shops in which I could buy Japanese rice crackers. Very tasty! Around 10 am it starts to be very busy around Sensojii because all shops are opened. Then I prefer to go back to my hostel to wash my teeth and prepare myself for exploring Tokyo.
