Asakusa 2
From Japan on February 9, 2009My hostel in Asakusa ic called Khaosan Tokyo hostel. It is small but a very pleasant place. At least it was when I was there. It is hidden in small street, very close to Asakusa metro station, so location is very convenient. Prices of bed and room are very decent and it is one of best things. Same as view, because hostel is located near river, and from windows I could see Asashi building and river and boats.
After breakfast in park and small walk around Sensoji temple, I like to go to explore neighbourhood... Asakusa is famous from restaurants and theaters. Food is really good there and prices are reasonable. I have found really great Japanese curry shop near big department store building. It is simple small bar, popular among office workers and students. I am a big fan of Japanese curry so I used to eat there quite often. If somebody is interested in cheap shopping, there is god 100Yen shop in neighbourhood. This kind of shop is a very good idea, because it is possible to buy nice things for such a small price. Quality os many products is so so, but it is possible to find also very good ones and made in Japan, not China. I used to buy there gifts for friends and family and lots of things for myself. For more wealthy tourists it is good to go shopping in Sensoji area shops or go to big d epartment store located near station entrance. It is better idea than shopping on Ginza, where prices are from space...so high.
Asakusa is rather quiet place, free from flashy enterteining places and not noisy. There is still hidden the spirit of old Tokyo. This is one of reasons I do like this place and call it mine. I am big fan of Japanese music and shakuhachi flutes. I have found workshop in which old master makes and sell different kinds of these flutes. My Japanese language skills were not too high when I first find this place, so I was shy to enter. But I promised myself that during my next stay in Asakusa I will find this shop and ask friend for assistance in translation. I want to buy one flute and learn how to play.
