Inuyama.
From Japan on February 1, 2009During my stay in Nagoya I had oportunity to visit Meijimura, theme park located in Inuyama. It takes around half an hour by bus from Nagoya. Meijimura is kind of skansen museum in which I could see buildings from Meiji era, collected from all Japan and gathered in Inuyama. Meijimura is surrounded by mountains, not too high but very pretty, covered by forests, so view is lovely. My friend was studying at Nagoya University in these days and I came to Japan invited by her. She had part time job in Meijimura, working as hostess. She had to welcome guests and give them basic informations about place and help them in need. Her uniform was really nice as she had to wear dress imitating 19 century dresses. She asked her manager if I can come to Meijimura and work one day with her. As payment I could watch all buildings and stay in park all day. manager said yes, because he wanted to have another white girl in old fashion European dress as attraction for visitors. So we had to find dress big enough for me. It was yellow dress in which I looked like big sunflower- blond me in yellow dress. It was fun. I could see many nice old houses, quite uniqe examples of first european style japanese buildings. It was like travelling in time. Houses were located in beautiful japanese park, with ponds and bridges, koi fish and benches surrounded by bluming bushes. I had to pose to hundreds of photos with groups of Japanese tourists. I was very popular and had to smile all the time. If I was not smiling people worried and apologize, so I smiled all the time. My dress was a bit uncomfortable and I felt like cooked in this costume, but people seemed enchanted, or maybe they were just kind because I looked funny? It was really a great day and I would like to come back to Meijimura.
