Kumano kodo part.5
From Japan on March 4, 2009My night in hammock was not too pleasant and in morning it was hard to go outside my warm shelter. So wet and unpleasant day, grey sky and it looked like rain, again.
But I slept enough and wanted to go to Hongu, to see temple which I started
to like from the first moment when I've seen its photo. It was 8 am, good time
to wake up. I put my shoes on, put hammock back to back pack, clean my face and
hands in cold stream and ate some modest breakfast. I had just chocolate and
water, but it was enough. I can not eat just after I wake up...
Following Jizo statues, my guides, I start last part of my walk. It was a
bit dangerous to walk after all night of raining, because water was falling
down and it was easy to loose balance. I had to climb a bit and my shoes were
covered by mud. And I was completely alone, walking through silent, misterious
forest, a bit melancholic. Sound of water drops and aroma of moss and trees.
Near waterfall I have seen deer. We looked at each other and he left, quietly
but not too fast. Japanese believe that deer is servant of kami and Kumano
forest and mountains are house of kami. I was in their house and met their
servant. I felt honoured.
I went through small village in which I found special place for pilgrims to
rest. So I use an oportunity to change my socks in dry place and go to nice,
clean toilet. Japanese toilets are so clean. I bought two bottles of Pocari
Sweet in one vending machine and can of hot coffee in another. Japanese are
brilliant. This coffee was so tasty. Old man from village, who cleaned street
outside of his house smiled to me and said hello. I smiled and said konnichiwa.
Country side is the best for me. People are so good and kind...
In another village I was going through, I saw tea bushes and there were
small tables in front of few houses with some goods to sell. People walking by
could take what they want and leave money in small box. Prices were stuck to
packages. Amazing...they do believe that no one will cheat them. It made me
feel so warm in heart. I do like these people.
