Ueno park.

Japan From Japan on April 22, 2009

Ueno Park is one of places in Tokyo where I really like to spend my free time.
First of all, it is very nicely located near Ueno Metro Station. So convenient,
because I just need to use Ueno Koen (park) exit from Ueno Station, cross the street and
turn a bit left to find stairs which lead directly to the park.
There are some other entrances, one also connected with Ueno station
and others with different parts of Ueno area.
Ueno Park is open for everybody and pretty during all seasons.
There are many things and places to enjoy. There are located the finest cultural sites
in Tokyo such as Tokyo National Museum, the National Museum of Western Art, National Science Museum
and puclic concert hall. I must also mention about many buddhist temples and pretty pond, and ZOO as well.
Something for everybody.

This year I am very lucky, because I came to Tokyo during Spring.
It is perfect occassion to enjoy hamani-observation of blooming cherry trees which if form
of Japanese tradition.
It is fun, because people organize picnincs under blooming trees, eating and drinking having
good time. It is nice to see that spring atmosphere is spreading all around.
Actually it is more summer like weather now, so I like to walk in shadows of big trees and enjoy flowers
all around.
There is always something unexpecting to see there.People play instruments, more or less
good, make some magical tricks or dancing, or sing.
Lots of places to seat and lots of free toilets- this is something what is a very important
matter for tourist who enjoy park.Free and clean toilets are great thing in Japan!
These in Ueno are a bit less nice than ususaly, but still clean and for free.
If I want nature, I have planty of space to enjoy it. If I want to see finest art exhibitions,
I can drop to one of museums. They are not charge free, but some expositions are really
unique and people can see greatest masterpieces from all world.
In front of National Science Museum there is standing an old locomotive, few meter farer
I could see giant statue of whale. Actually it is its original size I supprom officeose...amazing.
During lunch time, between 12pm and 2 pm, park is packed with people who want to eat lunch
watching birds and forget for a while about work
If you going to eat something there, you should be careful, becuse pigeons will come
to steal some of your food and maybe even leave a pile on your shoe.
There is one sad thing about Ueno park.
It is a home for many homeless people, really a lot of them!
They live in "houses" made from carboards and thick blue foil in deeper parts of the park.
Once a day they wait in a big queue for a free dinner. I could see this.
It is really depressing view. But they rather not bother anybody.
One importnat thing. If you eat or drink something in Ueno Koen, you may have a
difficulty in finding a garbage bins. There are no garbage beans, even in toilets.
People collect their garbage and take to threw away somewhere else.
I could see that during lunch time there are specially prepared places where man can
leave rubbish. It is rather not good idea to leave it on bench.
Near entrance to the park from Ueno station area ther are statues of animals and birds, transparent, made from some kind of white
wires. They are funny looking in day time, but even better in night, because then they glow by different colours
of lights.Lovely!
